You may be visiting this website because you are considering purchasing a Silky Terrier puppy and want to see if  he will fit into your lifestyle and family or because you are curious about the breed. Either way you'll find tons of information about the breed, grooming, and crate training, and basic care of the Silky Terrier.

Pictured above are my first two Silky Terriers.  On the left is Scruffy and on the right is Tausha.  It is because of these two special little guys that I have owned Silky Terriers for over twenty years.

Tausha was my constant companion for over 15 years and passed away a few years ago; however, I still miss her dearly.  She must have had a dozen names...tater tot, tata roo and ta tee roo were the names we used most often, but she came to all of them.  Of course, her place at night was on the bed with my husband and me.  As a puppy she quickly learned what time we got up in the morning and she was soon waking us before the alarm would go off.  She would do so by crawling on our neck and rolling around.  As she got older (and bigger) she added a horrible snorting noise to her ritual.  We had to laugh because it was like having a little pig on our bed rolling and snorting.  Like most Silky Terriers she loved to travel and went everywhere with us.  She found riding in the boat on the lake quite fun as she snapped and barked as the water sprayed around her.  As you can see, these little tikes are quite adventerous and become part of the family very quickly.

Scruffy belonged to my oldest son, Travis.  Scruffy belonged to Travis heart and soul, always wanting to be at his side.  If Travis or my other son, Jason, were outside and Scruffy was inside he would certainly let me know that he wanted to be outside with them.  He was at Travis' side if he was playing or doing yard work.  He loved to follow behind Travis as he rode his motorcycle in the pasture.  I even have a picture of Scruffy sitting on Travis' motorcycle seat as Travis worked on the bike.

Scruffy's only downfall was his sweet tooth.  One time I baked a cake and put it on the table to cool, then walked outside for a few minutes.  As I was walking back inside I looked in the window and there was Scruffy on the table scarfing down the cake.  By the time I got inside, he had eaten over half of it!  Scruffy was usually a very well mannered boy and knew he wasn't allowed on the table, but he just couldn't resist the temptation of that cake!  Another time I had took the kids out trick or treating.  My daughter, April, had dressed up as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and Scruffy was her Toto.  We stopped by friends house to show her the kids' costumes and when we got back to the car there were candy wrappers all over the back seat.  It was obvious that Scruffy had helped himself to the candy.  Travis found it quite amusing until he found out that the bag Scruffy had helped himself to was his own.  Then it wasn't quite so funny!

Although my kids are grown and have homes and Silkys of their own, Tausha and Scruffy will always hold a special place in all of their hearts.
